How to Use your Stance to Convey High Status
Are you interested in presenting yourself as successful, powerful, famous, or important? If so, you can make a few changes in the way you dress, walk, stand, and overall carry yourself that would convey high status, even if you do not fall within that category. Conveying high status is usually about confidence. The more you can build yourself up, the more your appearance will reflect security in yourself. If you were to watch some of the famous Hollywood actors such as George Clooney or politicians to include Bill Clinton, you notice a strong presence, a deliberate physical action that makes you believe they are confident and in control. The way they stand is relaxed yet in control. This is something that you too can achieve, simply by changing your stance. For example, if you were standing around with your shoulders slumped forward, ill-fitting clothes, feet turned inward, people would look at you and see little to no confidence. On the other hand, if you spend a little more time in the way you look, stand tall and proud, keep your shoulders squared, and feet planted firmly on the ground, women especially would take one look at you and think, “This is a guy who has it altogether.” If you want to create an aura that reflects high status, you can. Some of the signs of low status, things you definitely want to avoid, include crossing your arms, which is a defensive mechanism to keep people at bay. Instead, keep your arms open or to your sides so you may yourself more approachable. You should also avoid fidgeting. For instance, rocking back and forth shows nervousness, which is not conducive to someone with power, money, or fame. You should also pay attention to the tone of your voice and the words spoken. Speaking firmly and in a controlled manner will make it appear as if you are in control. Speak clearly and slowly, making valid points instead of rambling. As you can see, your body language will have a direct impact on the way in which people see you. Most importantly, you need to be relaxed, specifically when it comes to being in a variety of social situations. You can stand so you are proud and assured without being egotistical about it. To get into the right stance, you first need to get into the right mindset. This means to stop worrying about things that would make your shoulders droop and appear heavy. Additionally, relax the muscles in your body and make sure your movements are slowed down. Standing and walking in an unhurried manner makes you look far more confident than if you were scurrying about aimlessly. If a woman were to come up to you, rather than swing around quickly, maintain your stance and then slowly turn to see what she wants. This does not mean to be rude but simply to be in charge. These things will all help convey high status, whether you are or are not.
